What Are The Symptoms Of Addison S Disease?

Should I get checked for Addison s Disease? I have low blood pressure, anorgasmia, and salt cravings. I also have depression but was diagnosed with that a while ago. More recently, I noticed the backs of my knees getting darker - it looks like a horizontal line of a bruise on each knee, right where it creases. However, I only noticed this symptom after I looked up Addison s Disease, so maybe it is just my imagination running wild (since hyperpigmentation is a symptom of AI). I have been checked for a lot of things lately, since my low bp leads me to black out often, so I don t want to go to the doctor needlessly again.

Hello,
Thank you for asking on HCM! I read carefully your concerns and i think you are right, your symptoms do suggest for a low cortisol level.
Usually the darkening of the skin, generalised or local, precedes all other symptoms. Anyway, most of your symptoms are typical of Addison disease.
Is very important to report if you have been on corticosteroids lately? The withdraw of corticosteroids, without titrating the dose would cause Addison disease. Often Addison disease is associated with autoimmune disorders; thyroiditis Hashimoto, type 1 Diabetes, vitiligo ect.,
If you were a patient at my clinic i would recommend to do some exams in order to confirm the diagnosis of Addison disease; ACTH and cortisol level at 8 a.m, electrolytes, blood glucose level.
Hope this information will be somewhat helpful.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
