What Are The Symptoms Of Bell's Palsy?

our 30 year old son who lives in another city said he can't move any muscles on one side of his face, can't close his right eye, drool is coming out of that side of his mouth - but no other symptoms (has been driving, doing errands..) - it happened about 2 days ago, and just told us now - we are asking him to go to an ER - thinking it can't be a stroke because he's active, thinking it might be bell's palsy?? trying to figure out in the meantime. thank you for your help

Hi..
Thanks for writing to us..

As per your complain yes, it is right that the symptoms of paralysing of muscles of one side of face along with unable to close one eye and drooling are are all due to BELL'S PALSY or Facial Nerve PALSY that occurs due to disturbances in the functioning of seventh cranial nerve that is Facial Nerve that supplies the muscles of face..

It can occur due to any traumatic injury causing damage to affected side, infection, compression of nerve by any major artery, tumor etc..

Consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and investigations like MRI scan, nerve conduction studies, Electromyography etc can be advised to rule out the cause and treatment of the underlying cause will help in improving the symptoms gradually..

He can be advised Physiotherapy along with alternate warm and cool compresses along with treatment of cause to relieve symptoms faster..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
