What Are The Symptoms Of Fuchs' Dystrophy ?

Do you know anything about Fuchs' Dystrophy? Would you rate John D. Gottsch MD,right up there with Francis Price, MD? Both doctors are corneal specialists. I 'm sure most doctors don't like to rate their peers, but I'm wondering, because I have Fuchs' dystrophy and cataracts. If I have the cataracts removed, is it true that I'll have to do the cornea at the same time due to the lessening of the cells in the cornea? I have many anxieties about this procedure. Right now I am a pretty young 75 yr. old, and found out I had Fuchs' dystrophy when I was 61. Thought it would just magically disappear (the Fuchs'), but sure enough as Dr. Verinder Narinkari told me, it would progress slowly. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Angelina email is YYYY@YYYY

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that you are having Fuchs corneal dystrophy with cataract.
Fuchs dystrophy is a corneal dystrophy which is slowly progressive and seen in middle aged and elderly people.
The disease is characterized by slow and progressive loss of corneal endothelial cells causing loss of corneal transparency.
In presence of Fuchs dystrophy cataract surgery may aggravate loss of corneal endothelial cells hence depending on the endothelial cell count cataract surgery and keratoplasty may be required.
Do discuss with your ophthalmologist.
Thank you
