What Are The Symptoms Of Magnesium Oxide?

I am 80 years old and was advised to take 350mg of Magnesium Oxide capsule for constipation. I have been on opioids for chronic back pain 6+ years, Percocet & 125 mcg of fentanyl patches, from a accident in a deployment when in the Navy in 1954. It seems to help my bowel movement when taking the supplement about a hour after my evening meal with a full glass of water. Is there any danger in taking this magnesium supplement and should I be taking a different type of Magnesium supplement? Howard K.

Hi, I have read your question, and understand your concerns.

Answer: if you are taking it for constipation, then most probably it is magnesium hydroxide not magnesium oxide because the latter one is mainly used for acidity or indigestion.

This drug is usually safe, but it can cause derangement of some salts (electrolytes) especially in those who have kidney disease.

Hope this helps. And do not hesitate to contact me for any further clarification.
