Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doc, I have noticed a fishy/ foul smell during almost every BM. Sometimes, it smelt of coffee. It is very noticeable and embarrassing at times... I have gone to the ED a few times due to colitis or an illius and recovered, but never tested for anything specific. Form of it varies; it s lime green and frothy almost every time (possibly from a cholesectomy), dark/ brown and starts out formed and is really soft. I have read that it could be an infection. I m on amoxicillin for a root canal Q3d for 30 days. Will that help if I do have an infection? Please let me know your thoughts. Any advice or points to bring up up to my doc will help. Thanks in advance! Best, Berna
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Be careful about your diet. Eat healthy. You can take Metrogel (metronidazole) and antacid along with Omeprazole for relieve. However, you ought to get a stool examination, CBC done to screen out any other cause of your symptoms. Avoid all addictions & junk food. For your root canal infection take Penicillin VK (Veetids) & Acetaminophen/Paracetamol. Since you have stomach & BM problems avoid taking Amoxicillin for it may add to problems (loose stools). Gargle with saline water, take care of your dental hygiene.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
