What Are The Symptoms Of Bipolar Disease?

I suspect my 13 years daughter has bipolar disease. She is having mood swing all day long. I mean that her mood is not constant. She can be nervous and right a few minutes later regrets being rude. Her attitudes repetitive all the time but what is interesting that she can bear and tolerate sometime when we are in other places (when we are not home, for example) and can be patient and nice. Is it bipolar disease or just character.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Its commonly seen that teenagers behave this way. But she is always this way at home then its a matter of concern. Have you tried talking to her? Parents need to act a little bit smooth and tough at times with teenagers. She is aware of the fact that she should not behave this way when she is outside so, try to talk to her about her behaviour and if there is no change as per your expectations then it's better to consult a psychiatrist.

Sometimes it's important to have some counselling sessions for teenagers as they spend most of the time outside of the house with a friend or at school or playing games. so its pretty difficult to gel up easily with them. On extreme behaviours, a diagnosis by a psychiatrist is necessary so that appropriate medical attention can be given. If the psychiatrist reassures you of it nothing but just a teenager behaving like a teenager then nothing to worry.

So try to be friends with her sometimes so that she can open up about what exactly is going on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
