Month of march: my period started on the 6th of Sunday and ended that Thursday on the 11th. I started taking birth control that following Sunday on the 13th.. April: I got my period that Saturday on the 2nd and it ended on the 9th with spotting on the 10th (did I end there?)
Thursday on the 14th I had unprotected sex using the pull out method. I understand this method isn't 100% effective.
My next projected period was the 28th but my period still hadnt came...until May 1st which was lighter than usual.
I am now starting to feel nauseated and a constant urge to have a bowel movement. I also have a back pain on my lower right side of my back in line with my tailbone. Not feeling an urge to eat...
Am I pregnant or is it very possible that the birth control has messed things up.
FYI: I only took the birth control for a month. And I think I was supposed to wait to take the pill but I was confused on the directions my doctor gave and took the following Sunday after the current period in march not my next one in April.
Unfortunately you need to do a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy, because you did start your pill pack a week later thank you were supposed to, and I know the instructions can be confusing. You are supposed to start the pill on the first day of your period (the beginning) OR on the Sunday after your period begins. If you get your period on Sunday, you should start the pill that day. Ideally, you should be bleeding when you start the first pill of the pack. If you take the pill this way it is 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy.
However, you only had one episode of sex, and you used withdrawl which is about 60-80 percent effective in preventing pregnancy, so I think your chances of pregnancy are low this time. But your cycle may be thrown off for a while from the way you took the pill.
So I suggest if you are not currently pregnant you use a condom or another backup method of birth control until you get your period, then you can start over with the pill. I hope this was helpful and best wishes with your health. Sincerely, Dr. Brown
