What Are The Symptoms Of Strep Throat?

I'm trying to decide if I shoud go to my doctor for a strep test. I am 38 and have white/yellow spots on my tonsils, primarily the left and a large spot behind my left tonsil. Painful swallowing, enlarged glands all the good stuff, but no fever. I have had the symptoms for about 30hrs with no change

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms could be due to pharyngitis, and strept throat. The symptoms of strep throat are sore throat, white patches on throat, difficulty in swallowing, swollen lymph node in neck, fever and skin rashes. I would suggest to consult the primary care physician and undergo throat examination, blood tests like CBC, ASO, CRP, and throat swab test to rule out the cause.

Following treatment will help you:

- Antibiotics: AzithromycinTablet diclofenac and acetaminophen, Tablet prednisolone
- Drink plenty of warm water
- Use humidifier
- Strepsil throat lozenges (neem and honey flavor)
- Avoid cold beverages
- Do betadine gargle

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. sagar
