Hi,

Enlargement of male breast tissue is known as gynaecomastia. Low dose X-ray of breasts is known as mammogram can help to detect gynaecomastia and it is diagnosed by detecting subareolar breast tissue of 2 cm in diameter or greater. Blood levels of testosterone and estrogen may show hormonal disbalance which can cause gynecomastia. Other hormonal levels like LH, FSH, hCG etc may also be done. Liver function tests can be done to exclude any liver causes for gynecomastia. In case of drug induced gynaecomastia, it is usually reversible within 6 months or 1 year after stop taking the culprit medication that may be responsible for gynaecomastia. You should consult your doctor regarding the gynaecomastia that may be caused by your currently using medication and for further assessment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

It is wise to check with a medicine specialist, for direct physical examination [for any hard mass, discharge and/or axillary lymphadenopathy] and history taking, since apart from diagnosing gynecomastia, he might order other investigation(s) like Mammogram to exclude breast cancer.

Chest X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI scan of relevant organs could be done [if they are suspected to be the cause of gynecomastia]. Blood tests include liver function tests and hormonal profile and biopsy of the tissue [if needed].

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
