What Are The Vaccines For Rabies?

What are the vaccines that need to take to prevent myself from getting rabies are they the same once that are taken after the bite how long will they take to protect me and how many of those do I need to take ?

Preventive Vaccination (No Exposure) •People at high risk of exposure to rabies, such as veterinarians, animal handlers, rabies laboratory workers, spelunkers, and rabies biologics production workers should be offered rabies vaccine. •The vaccine should also be considered for: - People whose activities bring them into frequent contact with rabies virus or with possibly rabid animals. - International travelers who are likely to come in contact with animals in parts of the world where rabies is common. The pre-exposure schedule for rabies vaccination is 3 doses, given at the following times: Dose 1: As appropriate Dose 2: 7 days after Dose 1 Dose 3: 21 days or 28 days after Dose 1 For laboratory workers and others who may be repeatedly exposed to rabies virus, periodic testing for immunity is recommended, and booster doses should be given as needed. There are 2 types of immunization for rabies-
1. Post exposure prophylaxis- That is after you get bitten.
2. Pre-exposure immunization- It is advisable for people with an occupational or recreational risk of rabies exposures, including certain travelers to rabies-endemic areas. Schedule consists of three doses of rabies vaccine given on days 0, 7, and 21 or 28

1.Active Immunisation:

i.Inj.Rabipur: 6 Inj. on 1st day,3rd day,1wk,2wks,1mnth (cell culture vaccine)

ii.if dog is domestic and immunised against rabies,then wait and watch for 5 days.but still 2 doses i.e. on 0 and 3rd day should still be taken as rabies has no cure:(



II.Passsive Immunisation:

i.Inj. Serum T.I.G.



.dose of cell culture vaccine is same for adults and childrens

.persons exposed to Rabid animals must take prophylactic vaccine (1ml on days 0,7,21,1year,then every 3yrs)
