What Are The Withdrawal Effects Of Plavix?

I had a stent installed 4 years ago. At the time the doctors told me to take Plavix. That it was very important that I take it every day. Now a doctor has told me to leave it off. I uderstood I would need to take Plavix for ever. Now I am confused what to do. I appreciate your help.

Hi there,

There are two types of stents - bare metal stents and drug eluding stents. Bare metal stents require you to take plavix every day for a month, while drug eluding stents require you to take plavix every day for at least 6 months and preferably a year.

There are sometimes other reasons we put people on plavix, but for the most part when we put them on plavix for stents, it usually is not forever. The good news is that this is one less pill to take, and you shouldn't have any withdrawal symptoms at all. In fact, you may bruise less easily.

If you're confused, I would give your doctor a call and ask him to clarify. But overall, you shouldn't have any withdrawal effects at all, and if your stents were put in 4 years ago, you should be ok off plavix.

I hope I have answered your questions. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or if you feel I haven't addressed your question adequately.
