What Can Be Cause For Pain Near The Spine?

What would cause pain near the right side of my spine about two or three inches above the area where my pelvic bone meets my spine? It s a dull pain, rather than feeling like a stabbing pain. It feels almost like it should be part of my menstrual cramps (which I m also experiencing). The pain sometimes spreads from the right side of the spine to the area just above my right hip.
