What Can Be Done To Manage Lower Back Pain Due To Arthritis?

History of arthritis in lower back since my early 40 s ...58 now......Now experiencing frequent episodes of intense lower back pain...comes without warning...lasts for days....I have medicated with ibprofin, naproxen, hydro codeine, and muscle relaxers....nothing is helping.....pain level is 10+....being to affect my quality of life

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain which is not being controlled by pain killers requires more investigations and thus management.
You need to get X-ray of lower spine and blood levels of HLA-B 27 to rule out ankylosing spondylitis.
Ankylosing spondylitis is an auto-immune condition wherein there is involvement of lower back.
In addition, there is involvement of other parts also like eyes causing uveitis, involvement of bowel causing inflammatory bowel disease and involvement of other joints also.
It is important to diagnose this condition because steroids are the mainstay of treatment for this condition besides painkillers.
