What Can Be The Six Inch Scar Found On Upper Spine?

my sister is in the hospital and was in a coma for afew weeks not is is awoke. a few days ago a scar about 6ins long was noticed along the upper spine. no one can eplain where it came from. it looks like superficial scar. she has diabeties and is a bit on the heavy side. Any idea what this might be?
