What Can Cause Abnormal Discharge From Rectum In A Stroke Patient Who Is On A Wheelchair?
My husband is a stroke patient and is in wheelchair. Lately when he passes gas he will release fluids from his rectom. So I started putting panty liners in his underwear under his rectum so it wouldn t come through. He had to go to bathroom and I found that his butt crack is very red and sore for him. When I wipe a little of blood. What can I put on him? He also sweats a lot. Please help
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Sorry to hear your husband had a stroke. Since he is on wheelchair for long, and given the fact that he also has some incontinence, he is at risk of developing pressure sores. When these sores appear, if not well taken care of , they may become infected and will give such abnormal discharges.I feel what you describe is an infected pressure sore.He will however have to see the Doctor for examination. The best treatment will be: -Regular dressing -Changing his position on bed frequently and avoiding him sitting in wheelchair for too long -Good and balanced diet -Your Doctor may also prescribe antibiotics for the infection. Hope this will help Best regards
