What Can Cause Clotting During Periods?

Hi, I started depot in sept 2013 and took my last shot in DEC. In march my periods came back and seemed regular. But recently I had a period and it was bright red mostly with clots. Can the clots be a sign of my ovulation returning? How do I know when I m ovulating?
