What Can Cause Fluid In The Lungs And Blood In Phlegm?

Have a deep cough. Thought it was because of allergies. Lots of mucus in my lungs. Just coughed and blood was in the flem. Tea colored flem mixed with a little blood. Was at VA medical center earlier today and they gave me anti-biotics, nasal spray for allergies. X-ray showed a little fluid in lungs. My wife thinks they missed something . Do you have any idea what is wrong with me? I don't drink or smoke.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.

By your history and description, possibility of pneumonia is more likely. Pneumonia is lung infection. This can cause hemoptysis (blood in sputum) and pleural effusion (fluid in the lungs).
Antibiotics are the mainstay treatment of pneumonia.
So finish your antibiotic course.
Get done repeat chest x ray.
If fluid is resolving then no need to worry much.
But if fluid is worsening (increasing) then he may need aspiration of fluid. Don't worry he is taking correct medications at present.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
