What Can Cause Heavy Periods ?

Hi doc.. ive been using althea pill for the past 2 months.. then after that I stop using then I have my period last 11th to 15th of this month..at 27th u have my period again and its heavier than the first regular date.is it because of taking that pills and stop taking it, I have to go to visit my bf this sept 15. I am safe to that date?
