Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Can Cause Low Blood Pressure Levels While On Telmisartan, Hydrochlorothiazide And Simvastatin?
I take Telmisartin 40mg at bedtime, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg and Simvastatin 40mg in the morning. I also have Hydralazine 10mg (1/2 tablet) if needed for occasional "spiking" of blood pressure. However, over the weekend, my blood pressure reading dropped to 70/40, for which I drank water, ate some salt, quick recovery. Otherwise my blood pressure stays fairly "normal." Suggestions?
Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hi,
Telmisartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, and Hydralazine are all blood pressure lowering medications. If you are experiencing a periodic drop in blood pressure the dosage of the medications should be reduced. Please, consult with your doctor to review your medication doses. It is important to monitor blood pressure several times a day once your doctor decides to make adjustments in the dose of the medications. Furthermore, follow lifestyle modifications by eating a healthy diet, decreasing salt intake and doing regular physical exercises. Also, maintain normal weight and limit alcohol intake if you drink.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
