What Can Cause Lower Back Pain And Swollen Ankle?

My 22 year-old son went to his primary care physician today for lower back pain and swollen ankles he has dealt with at various times. His primary referred him to a cardiologist because he also complained a of rapid heartbeat at various times, plus he's complaining of body soreness. Is there any connection?
