What Can Cause Pain On Swallowing Food And Drink?

I have pain on my right side when I swallow food or drink with chills. I did have surgery for blockage caused by scar tissue when my left adrenal gland was removed and the surgeon said this condition could happen again. Could these symptoms be related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain when swallowing and drinking generally happen due to problems with the throat of the esophagus, which is at the chest level. It is unlikely that these would be due to a local surgery in the back or abdominal area.
If the symptoms are for less than 10 days, there is nothing to worry, you just need to take ibuprofen and paracetamol to help with the pain and make sure you avoid hot and very cold food and drinks.

If you have these for longer than 10 days then you will need to see your doctor.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
