What Can Cause Redness And Swelling Under The Eyes?

Yesterday morning when I woke up I had a red, slightly swollen area under and to the outside of my left eye. It doesn't itch. It appeared as though I had "bag" under my eye, fluid filled and puffy. Today it is a little more red and alittle itchy, little bigger.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be a style or abscess or even early cellulitis. All three mean infections and mostly infection involves the lids. I would advise you to start oral and topical antibiotics but they will require prescription. Moxifloxacin eye drops four times a day for a week along with hot fomentation four times a day will help. If it still doesn't go then kindly see an ophthalmologist who will drain the pus if any by removing a lash at the base of it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshita
