What Can Cause Sudden Cramp In Throat And Back Of Tongue?

I was outside waiting for the school bus to drop off the kids....cold , I was holding my neck down to keep my chin warm in my zipped coat....when I raised my neck up, I got a cramp in my throat and back of my tounge....I have never felt that before and got nervous. I was afraid it was going disruptt my breathing. I m fine, but wonder why it happened...I assume it was because I was holding my head down hard and tightened those muscles and when realeasing them, muscles cramped

Hi,

The cold outside and odd position of neck you hold can cause muscle spasm hence causing cramps and pains. Take an anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Your doctor will prescribe muscle relaxant if needed. Take rest. Use collar to stabilize neck to avoid further spasms. Warm foods and liquids.

Take bed rest, no work, no job to give healing time for cramped muscles as neck muscles are the most working throughout the day. Avoid cold and such positions next time as this can recur. Also, get treated any other associated problems like cold, viral infection that usually is a precursor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
