Hello,

Adult bedwetting also called nocturnal enuresis in women can be caused by medical, psychological, or lifestyle-related factors. Do lovingly support her by encouraging her to see a urologist. This is to rule out overactive bladder, small bladder capacity, neurological conditions, sleep disorders, diabetes or other systemic issues, etc.

Do not leave her alone, tell her the visit is not to embarrass her but for her good, kindly be supportive and non-judgemental. Sometimes, psychological and emotional factors also play role like childhood trauma, PTSD, sexual abuse, anxiety, etc. Let her know this is a treatable medical condition, not a curse or failure. Nothing to get embarrassed about, there are many who are getting treated for such a condition, she is not alone.

Here are some helpful tips that you are advised to share with her. She is advised to the bathroom regularly during the day. Practice bladder training (holding urine a little longer each time). She should avoid heavy fluids after dinner. She should limit caffeine and alcohol intake. She is advised to elevate legs during the day to reduce nighttime urine production. Empty bladder completely right before sleep.

She is advised to wake up at least once during the night to go to bathroom (set an alarm if needed). To reduce stress, she can use a waterproof bedding. She need not worry. Once the cause of the symptom is detected the Urologist, she will get treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
