Last night I went to bed perfectly normal, this morning I woke up to a small, pea sized lump on the shaft of my penis. The lump is hard beneath the skin and is mildly to moderately painful to apply pressure to. I have had sex recently, but with the same partner it has been for over a year.

If you had unprotected sex - need to rule out sexually transmitted infection. Your symptoms more like towards to herpes / syphilis. If not, it can be due to bacteria. Local application of antibiotics can help you. Share a picture for confirmation.
