What Cases Pain In The Mid Chest And Indigestion?

I m having pain in the middle of my chest and trouble digesting my food. This occurs when I m eating certain types of food (steak, rice, coffee, Mexican food, etc) Today when I was eating lunch I thought I was going to choke, very frightening...could this be acid reflex ?? Thanks.Jon

Hi,

Your symptoms suggest GERD which refers to gastroesophageal reflux disease. You need a course of acid reducing drugs such as H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors. The drug should be taken half an hour before food.

Avoid excess intake of coffee, spicy food.Adequate hydration is necessary.Allow a gap of atleast half an hour between food intake and sleep time.

To rule out any other cause of chest pain, kindly take an ecg or echo.

Hope that was helpful.Let me know if i can assist you further.

Regards
