What Cases Soreness And Pain In Foot And Ankle After Injury?

I took a puck to the inside of the foot (near the arch) yesterday and it swelled a bit. Today it is really sore to touch and the pain radiates to other side of the foot and into the ankle. How do I know if it just a bruise that needs ice and rest, or a fracture/brake that may need more?
