My husband has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He is on metformin and an antibiotic because he is constantly getting a uti. we test his blood sugar levels and tonight it was 360. The metformin is not working and the antibiotics have run out yet he still is having pain while urinating. Should he go to the er because of this level. His blood sugar levels are always high. We have talked to the doctor about this but he just tells him to keep taking the metformin.
Hi i do care for your concern. regarding high blood sugar level, Insulin is a hormone that controls the blood glucose level. Low level of the insulin cause blood glucose level to rise. The present glucose level that you mentioned is high, and also UTI present. It is advisable to consult a physician and get treatment accordingly. If i were your treating doctor then i would Put on injectable insulin and control the UTI, then switch him on oral medications for diabetes. diabetes can be controlled with drug and also proper diet. Hope i have answered your question, if you have more doubts feek free to ask. Thank you.
