What Casues Pain In The Back While Taking Deep Breath?
I fell off a chair (while I was standing on it), onto the right side of my back. This happened about a month ago. While it is still painful, I feel it most when I take a deep breath. I am assuming the muscles are healing, but I wonder if this is taking longer than it should feel no pain!
A whole month is a little long for a muscle injury, although it is still possible. However, my suspicion is that you probably cracked a rib, which takes a little longer to heal.
Do not worry, cracked ribs usually heal on their own with nothing more than pain relief medication like diclofenac or tramadol. The medication is to make sure that you are able to deep breathe and cough well, because shallow breathing to avoid pain will make you more prone to pneumonia.
Since it has been a month, the pain has probably already reduced, so now it's just a matter of waiting for the rest of the healing to take place.
Hope this helps, and all the best to you.
Regards, Dr. Teh
