What Cause Abdomen And Feet To Swell?

my husband has hepatits c and has drank heavily for the past 4 years after being sober for 12 he has recently stoped drinking again and now has a swollen abdomen and swollen feet and legs alomost daily he has already spent the past 15 years at doctors offices and is not going to go back is there anything that I can do to help the swelling. he has had hep c for 30 years and is 61 years old and abused drugs and alcohol for most of his adult life except for the 12 years sober please help me with any suggestions he is very uncomfortable and in pain daily

You are describing signs suggestive of liver failure. I would encourage your husband to visit an emergency room immediately for further evaluation. Abdominal swelling is likely caused by ascites, which is fluid buildup behind a failing liver. This fluid buildup can also cause leg swelling, called edema. His history of Hepatitis C and alcohol use mean his liver may be seriously compromised. Liver failure can result in death. It is important for your husband's health that he seek medical attention, as there are treatments available for liver failure, one of which is a prescription diuretic to decrease the amount of fluid building up in his abdomen and legs.
