What Cause Difficulty In Walking?

Yes. I just got out of bed to walk to bathroom and was very unsteady on my feet. I had to hold onto wall or counter to sstand. I walked back to bed and took BP and was 130/79 pulse 60. Temp slightly elevated at 98.4 (normal for me is 97). Not had these symptoms before. Nick

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

Given the history that your blood pressure and pulse rate were within normal limits during the episode, Cardiovascular causes for the symptoms can be ruled out.
Under such circumstances, the symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to pathology in the Vestibular Apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance) most probably Labyrinthitis or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

Though symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Vestibular sedatives like Betahistine or Cinnarizine preparations (to be taken only under the guidance of a Physician), the underlying cause needs to be treated.

If it still persists, then you need to consult your Physician/ ENT Specialist & get a complete clinical examination done.
Investigations like estimation of blood sugar levels, serum electrolytes & vestibular function tests will be required to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status and avoid stress.
And also take precautions of getting up from bed slowly & avoid sudden head movements.

Wishing a Good Health.
Take care.
