my 4 year old daughter suddenly started complaining of right ear pain. She says she hit the table. Normally she does not cry unless there is a serious injury. This time she is howling. Should I take her to the emergency right away or wait for her Ped in the morning
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain ear ache after being hit on the table can be most probably be due to traumatic injury to the eardrum leading to its perforation..
In case if she has accidentally perforated her eardrum then it needs to be taken case of as there can also be associated loss of hearing..
You should as of now give her pain relievers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen and should as soon as possible consult a Paediatrician or an ENT expert and get an otoscopy done..
In case if she has a perforation she can be advised antibiotic and analgesic ear drops along with oral antibiotics and painkillers for healing the perforation as well as preventing infection..
In case if there is a large perforation surgical correction known as Tympanoplasty to repair the eardrum can be advised..
Hope this information helps..
