What Cause Inability To Walk Along With Weakness In Hands?

My boyfriend has gone to Mayo Clinic in Arizona and Barrows in Arizona and still has been told they so not know what is wrong with him. He s been in Arizona a year this month and is worse off than when he went. He started a year ago having problems with walking. He had started falling down more. His hands were losing their strength. Besides these issues he has an issue with not being able to control his bowels. Mayo has done several tests and still kept testing him with no diagnosis. He just called after going to Barrows that they have done tests and thought it was congestive heart failure and as a result of testing on his heart said heart was fine. So all of his swelling and inability to walk without a walker they don t know why! Is there a place in the U.S. that is capable of giving a patient a diagnosis other than don t know but take this medication or do this therapy? He is only 62 years old. Thank you. Gingi Vaughngl

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the symptoms you've described, several possible conditions could be causing his problems, including neurological disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, autoimmune diseases, and more. It's difficult to provide a specific diagnosis without more information and a thorough medical evaluation.

Your boyfriend must continue to seek medical attention and undergo additional testing to try to identify the underlying cause of his symptoms. He may want to consider seeking care from a large academic medical center or a specialized neurology or neurosurgery center, where he can be evaluated by experts who are familiar with rare and complex conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
