What Cause Numbness Along With Sagging Of Lip During Root Canal Treatment?
I had a root canal on tooth no. five yesterday. I still have to go back to get it completed. I had two or three shots of novacaine. I noticed that my sinus area seemed very numb and I couldn t move my lip at all. Thought it would be fine once novacaine wore off. Took longer than usual for it to wear off. When I looked in the mirror this morning, I noticed that my lip is sagging on that side. And it still feels somewhat numb. Could something have gone wrong or is this normal?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain sagging of the lip after novocaine injection can be a temporary muscle paralysis caused by transient nerve injury and at times it is not due to extensive injury to the nerve causing paralysis of the affected side of face.. You can keep a watch over the symptoms and in case if the numbness and sagging increases or extends to the cheek involving the entire affected side then it can be due to injury to Facial nerve causing Bell's Palsy.
In case if the sagging and numbness does not improve in next 24 hours consult your dentist and get evaluated..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
