General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the chest after an accident can be due to ribs being hurt or muscles. The x-ray may in some cases show fractures in the ribs but many times it may miss them.

The treatment if there are rib fractures or not is the same. You are recommended to take Ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours after food and also a combination of paracetamol and codeine or paracetamol and tramadol to help with the pain.

It may take 1-2 weeks for the pain to be better and if a fracture is present it may take a few weeks.

I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.

Regards,
