General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Very likely your mother is having arthritis that is causing the pain in the hip and upper thigh area.
She will need a good examination and possibly an x-ray to examine her hip joint and confirm the diagnosis.
On the other hand, treatments to help with pain, like ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time with ibuprofen might be helpful to release pain. After the x-ray examination is done, she may benefit from physiotherapy as well.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
