What Caused Blurry Vision During My IV Treatment For An Allergic Reaction With Severe Abdominal Pain And Dehydration?

Hi! Yesterday I was in the hospital for an intense allergic reaction with severe/crippling abdominal pain, and dehydration due to constant throw up. I had to get an IV for fluids and cramps medication, while I had the IV on I got such a blurry vision that I could not see anything in front of me the whole time. What could that be?

Hello,

Blurry vision could have been caused by low blood pressure (hypotension), side effects of the medications you took. It can be due to electrolyte or sugar imbalance because of severe vomiting and dehydration causing low sodium, potassium, or glucose. If your allergic reaction was systemic, your eye tissues could have been affected (mild swelling of cornea or eyelids), causing temporary focusing problems.

Normal vision should return when your vitals get normal. In case you are continuing to have vision problems associated with severe headache, weakness, speech trouble, or numbness then you are advised to get clinically examined by an eye specialist who will give you the required treatment. They might refer you to a neurologist to treat your neurological symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
