What Caused The Dark Purple Bruise On Back After Falling?

I fell on slate steps and hit me rear end 4 days ago. I have a very bad bruise that is about 8 inches long and three inches wide, it is very dark purple. It hurts but is not so bad that I can't sit on it. My husband now has me worried that I could get a blood clot. Should I see a doctor?
