What Causes Oxygen Desaturation While On Treatment For Seizure?

My son is in the ICU right now for seizures...they incubated him since he kept desatting on his oxygen levels, they administered some propofol I believe to help ease his body and stop seizures. It seemed to work then they took off tube a day later, he slept through he night. Then he began to vomit, he began to desat closer together and then eventually started seizing again. Could he be having seizures while asleep to cause him to destat? It is so frustrating

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Episode of seizure can make the oxygen saturation low and hence events of desat. The primary causative pathology of his seizure can cause an episode of repeated seizure activity, vomiting and even frequent events of desat.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
