Hi Doctor , i did a medical checkup and came back with TPHA positive but RPR(VDRL) negative.
THe doctor prescribe me with antibiotics and ask me to come after 1 month for another test.
I had 3 encounters before with protected intercourse but receiving unprotected oral sex. This is my 2nd time of blood check. i have HIV Chlymadia herpes all came back negative. I am not sure what to do ? Is this possible THPA pstive with RPR negative ? 1 month ago i have terrible flu which lasted 2 week and doctor prescribe me with antibiotics as well . Should i go for penicilin. im looking for help :)

Hello,If I am your attending Doctor I can say TPHA is a confirmatory test for the T. pallidum a sexually transmitted infection. It comes positive before the RPR test which is non confirmatory screening test. The unprotected oral sex which you have received is the probable cause of such a disease. As your treating Doctor I advised you to take Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units IM in a single dose or if you are allergic to penicillin than Doxycycline, 100 mg orally two times for 15 days, and advised you to come for follow up after a month to retest for TPHA. thnx
