What Causes UTI Along With Vomiting And Pain Under The Chest?

Hi, I developed urine infection synpotoms a few weeks ago while I was on holiday. I was unable to get to a pharmacy for over 24 hours and when I did they provided me with cranberry sachets. I spent the next 24 houra vomiting. The pain was very severe right under my chest and I was extremely weak and lethargic. I went to the doctor upon arriving home and she give me Nitrofuration which I was on for a week. Symptoms cleared up very slowly and 48 hours after finishing the antibiotic I felt the symptoms again. I didn t want to end up so ill again and as I was off on holiday again I went to the doctor on call. They prescribed me with another dose of nitrofurantoin. I have nearly finished the course however received a call from the receptionist to say the results from my urine sample suggested I needed Penicillin VK to clear up my infection. She was unable to give me further information than this but now I am wondering if I have something entirely different to a urine infection or what is going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it still is an urinary tract infection but the bacteria causing the infection does not respond to nitrofuratoin.

Bacteria may respond to one antibiotic and be resistant (not respond) to others.
If a sample of urine was sent to the lab, the technicians would have tested it to see which antibiotics would work best.

You may have to switch for an optimal response.

I hope this helps
