General Surgeon 's  Response
In all probability, the nurse while while starting the IV line, punctured a nearby artery, leading to the big swelling. It may take 2 to 3 weeks for the hematoma to subside. The limb should be rested. Thrombofobe ointment may be applied on the area 2 to 3 times a day. Thus things will be back to normal.
