What Causes A Brown Chunk At The Bottom Of The Belly Button?

I noticed some flakes in my belly button that looked like dry skin so I cleaned it out. I had someone look at it to make sure that it looked clean and they noticed a brown chunk at the bottom. When we tried to pull it out, thee was resistance. It seems to me that it is attached. Is that bad? I would like to note that there is no smell, redness, or liquid.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
The cleaning you did in an attempt to remove dry scaly skin - has caused mild abrasion to underlying skin fold of belly button. it must have caused slight bleeding, which stopped on it's own & dried - creating brown tissue at bottom.
- Please don't pull it/ disturbe it,for it may injure the skin fold again followed by bleed/ infection.
- It's good that there is no smell/discharge/redness. That excludes infection & inflammation.
- Now what you need is to keep it clean & dry to prevent infection & hassen healing.
Thanks.
