What Causes A Brown Discharge During Menstruation?

My husband and I had unprotected sex a few weeks ago right around ovulation time (although I thought it was about a day later). I am expecting my period and thought I was getting it, but I have just had brown discharge on and off for a few days now. Could I be pregnant?
