What Causes A Bruise On The Forehead After Injury In A Child?

My 5 year old son ran into a pole this morning and has a large bruise/egg on his forehead. It happened at about 10am this morning. He is very tired, which is normal after a day of kindergarten. Should I be waking him in the night? Or is he okay to sleep normally?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Probably after a head injury in a child an x-ray us needed to check for bone injury.

If he feels sleepy and vomits this is a bad sign and you should go to the ER. If he feels normal and confident despite the bruising it can be not important.

You should use ice compresses on it to lower swelling and bruising.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
