What Causes A Bruise On The Lower Left Abdomen After A Ruptured Ovarian Cyst?

My 23 year old daughter had a 4 cm ovarian cyst. Nausea, vomiting, pain. Went to the ED yesterday and ultrasound showed the cyst was gone, likely burst from the level of her pain, nausea and vomiting. Today she has what looks like a bruise in the lower left quadrant. Related? Of concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I don't think the burst of an ovarian cyst can cause bruising or changes in skin color of abdomen. The clinical symptoms you described are probably related to bursting cyst. I don't think this is something to be concerned or worried about.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
