What Causes A Bulge On The Penis After A Hernia Repair Surgery?

I had an open inguinal hernia repair on May 4. All seemed to go well. However, now I have a hard, cord-like symptom that starts near the base of my penis and runs down my shaft. It does not seem to be a vein. It does not hurt often, only when moved awkwardly or stretched, but is definitely causing me some concern, and I can t see the doctor at least until Monday. It also seems to be at the base of my pelvis and I m wondering if the mesh that was put in is irritating compressing or strangling something. Do you have any idea what it may be? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a cord hematoma. Which is nothing but a collection around spermatic cord. In most cases it will settle by itself without any complications. Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. An ultrasound scan is required for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
