What Causes A Bump On Back Of The Ear?

My friend has a bump on the back of her ear, right around her cartilage piercing. Sometimes it gets more swollen and that's when she tries to pop it. Only blood comes out, no puss, and the swelling noticeably goes down. What would this be and is it a major health issue?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your query a bump at the site of ear piercing is not a sign of any major health issue and can be due to soft tissue injury caused by the pricking needle or the pricking gun and there can also be hematoma formation if any minor blood vessel is pricked during piercing..
You need not to worry as there is nothing serious and will get resolved soon as you told that swelling has gone down considerably already..
She should gently remove the earring that she is wearing and clean the area with an antiseptic solution and apply a steroid ointment over it..
Do alternate warm and cool compresses over it and do not try to pierce it as it can cause infection and further become painful and there can be pus formation..
Do not worry as it will resolve in a week or ten days and she should wear earring only after it gets healed completely.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
