What Causes A Burning Sensation And Tightening Of The Palm?

I've been having pain just above the heel of my left palm. I am right handed, have not had an injury, and cannot figure out what may be causing it. I lift my two grandchildren often but the right hand is fine. At times it feels like a burning sensation and other times it feels like an ache or tightening in it. Any ideas what it could be?
