What Causes A Buzzing Sensation In The Left Foot?

I have had a buzzing sensation in my left foot for a few days. It is not a heart beat. It is not numbness. It is more like a buzz for a few seconds, then it stops, then it buzzes again. It is driving me nuts and even can wake me up at night. Any ideas?
